Biosketch: Dr. Louise Peterson

Louise Peterson is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in Education at Gothenburg University. Louise earned her Ph.D. at the IT-faculty, Gothenburg University. Her research interests include issues of digital technologies in people’s leisure-time activities. In her doctoral dissertation, published in 2011, she explored the social activity of children’ s game play with open-ended-simulation-games like The Sims and The Sims 2. She is also interested in children’s and youth’s digital media cultures and how learning takes place and can be understood in boundaries between institutional and non-institutional settings. This interest was reflected in the design of the syllabus of the course Children’s digital media cultures for teachers in after school centers, where she is the course leader. The course focus specifically on children’s participation in emerging digital cultures and how this can be understood in relation to current public debate in media, issues actualized in educational practices and research.
