Biosketch: Dr. Davoud Masoumi

Davoud Masoumi is a PhD in Educational Science from the University of Gothenburg and has a background in educational technology. His doctoral thesis "Quality in E-learning Within a Cultural Context" takes a cross-disciplinary approach and looks at quality in e-learning in higher education. In this study, he developed a comprehensive e-quality framework for enhancing and assuring quality in virtual institutions, i.e. institutions committed to e-learning or distance education. Based on the premise that quality in e-learning is culturally conditioned by carrying attributes of a given culture, a conceptual culturally-sensitive e-quality model was developed.

This study reflects his general research and teaching interests on how ICT transforms educational practices and teaching and learning within these practices. More specifically, it reflects his interests in how learning environments and tools such as Learning Management Systems (LMSs) can be designed and implemented to enhance teaching and learning; how quality in higher education can be assured and enhanced; and how quality models can be developed and implemented. It also addresses his interest in cross-cultural issues by using a cross-disciplinary approach to learning as well as comparative work. Even more fundamentally, his research interests and orientation reflect an ambition to contribute to the advancement of education in developing countries such as his home country Iran and, from a broader perspective, to a better world.
