Biosketch: Christina Björkenvall Starrost

Since September 2011, I am Ph.D. student at the Department of Education and Special Education. I have a Master in Media and Communication Studies and a Teacher Degree for Upper Secondary School.

Today we are living in a digital culture where digital technological innovations affect us all in different spheres of our lives, fast-forwarding societal change. Marshall McLuhan's idea of a 'global village' from the 60s is becoming increasingly real as we are leaving the analogue age behind, forcing ourselves to alter the understanding of time, space and identity. Due to more accessible, affordable, user-friendly computer-mediated technology the audience is accredited the right and ability of being a part of the creation and diffusion of meanings, changing prevalent communication order in the society. In regard to this rapidly changing media landscape, starting at the end of the last millennium, there has been an intense debate about the role of information and communication technology (ICT) and how that will affect not only schools in both the process of teaching and learning, but also the role of the teachers.

My aim is to further explore the ICT policy making enactment process from an organizing/performative perspective in order to see how that affects the organizing of the pedagogical practice for teachers. The main target groups are principal school organizers, school leaders, school developers, teachers and pedagogical ICT-coaches.
