Biosketch: Dr. Vaike Fors

I was born in 1969 and grew up in a small town in the north part of Sweden. After my teacher training at the University of Technology in Luleå, I moved to the southern part of Sweden and worked as a teacher in the compulsory school for 5 years. In June 2002 I started my PhD studies at the Department of Educational Sciences at Luleå University of Technology. I got my PhD degree in March 2006. During this period I also gave birth to three sons and married my husband Mikael. Now we have moved back to the south and live in Arild in the north-western part of Skåne.

Current research activities and projects

My research interest includes learning in informal settings from a participatory perspective, especially in practises where young people are involved. I have taken a certain interest in understanding how artefacts gain sense in museums. I suggest that the newborn focus on the visual and audible culture in contemporary society must be seriously considered when studying learning processes. At the moment, I have a post-doc position at University of Gothenburg and I am involved in two governmentally funded research projects, both concerning learning and meaning-making in museums; a)Young people' sensory experiences of meaning-making in virtual reality and museums, and b) The Museum, the exhibition and the visitors. Meaning making in a new arena for learning and communication (project leader is prof Staffan Selander, Stockholms university).
