Charlotta Isaksson was a doctoral fellow and a visiting scholar within LinCS from Mars 2010 - February 2011. Her research focuses on the ways in which material artifacts are acquired, appropriated and used in social practices. Her empirical work mainly considers how artifacts are used in the context of energy efficient technologies and low energy buildings. In her post doctoral research she examines within households the reasoning, sense-making and appropriation of newly acquired heating systems, such as bedrock heat pumps and district heat. (The post doc is funded by the Swedish research council Formas).
She finished her PhD in October 2009 at the department of Thematic studies, Technology and social change, Linköping university. In the doctoral thesis she examined how the energy concept in passive houses, and its related technologies, were domesticated in the daily life of householders. The gradual process in which the household members learn how to handle the energy technology in their passive house, supported by their earlier experiences and other kinds of resources, was examined. As Ph D student she was a member of the national research program Energy system and the research program ELAN at Elforsk. Part time, she was engaged in teaching and supervision of students within the courses research method and information technology in everyday life. She also worked with research projects, synthesizing and documenting social science research about energy use in the home. Now, she is teaching courses on environmental sociology at University West.
