Biosketch: Annika Gårdsby

I am a Ph.D. student in the Graduate Research School in Educational Sciences within the framework of the Centre for Educational Sciences and Teacher Research (Centrum för utbildningsvetenskap och lärarforskning, CUL). I work at the Department of Applied IT, at the IT University of Gothenburg. My academic background is in informatics and I have a degree of Bachelor of Education.

My research interest is in how digital tools can be used in literacy activities in educational settings, how these tools affect the social and discursive practices of schools and how they may influence the way children learn to read and write. I have in my degree project empirically studied secondary school students use of a wiki in a collaborative writing project. Wikis are digital tools that offer a functionality supposed to facilitate collaboration and writing. Seen in perspective of traditional writing in schools, wikis are an example of digital tools that introduce new conditions for writing and collaboration. With my previous work as a background, the thesis plan is to continue to work with my empirical material and study writing, collaboration and communication processes in wikis, but also in use of other digital tools.
