Biosketch: Dr. Sylvi Vigmo

Sylvi Vigmo works as a senior lecturer and holds the position as the Director of Studies for the LinCS-DSES Doctoral School in Educational Sciences. The second position is as the Director of Studies for teaching and learning, specializing in ICT, at the Department of Education, Communication and Learning. In her previous research Sylvi has explored young language learners' engagement, interaction and use of English in a school context during a collaborative digital media production.

Current research activities

The interest in learners' agency and use of English in hybrid media practices more seldom acknowledged in institutional practices, has led to Sylvi’s further involvement in a research project financed by The Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Foundation. The project "Linguascapes: Language learning in social media worlds", is an international project that takes young people’s interaction, participation and use of social media and English as a global language, as its point of departure. The research project contributes to the theme in LETStudio 3 Young citizens: Literacy and participation in new media ecologies.
