Frances is a senior lecturer at the Swedish School of Library and Information Science at the University of Borås (SSLIS). Her teaching interests include information seeking from a user perspective, information literacy, children and young people’s use of media, and the development of children’s libraries. Her doctoral thesis, presented in spring 2009, is a study of school leavers’ information activities related to study and occupational choice.
Frances is a member of the project Culture with children (KUMBA). The project's focus is on children and their caregiver's participation in the development of the Children's Culture Centre in Borås. It is funded at present by the Svea Bredal Fund. The objectives of the project are to: 1) Follow the process of developing the Children's Culture Centre, both within the project and between various partners. 2) Through ethnographic methods seek children's and caregivers' perspectives on cultural activities for children 3) Develop methods for gaining insights into processes that promote participation and finally to relate the results of the study to research on childhood, generation, participation and empowerment. In the project Frances collaborates with Barbro Johansson, ethnographer at the centre for Consumer Science at The University of Gothenburg.
