Anna-Lena Godhe obtained a PhD in Applied Information Technology with specialization in Educational Sciences in 2014. Currently she holds a position as assistant senior lecturer with a specialization in Learning and IT at the Department of Education, Communication and Learning (IPKL), University of Gothenburg.
Anna-Lena's PhD-project concerned the use of digital technologies within language education. With different digital technologies it is today possible and fairly easy for students in a classroom to create texts consisting of several modes, such as images and sound. This challenges what the concept of literacy entails in an educational setting and how to assess texts where several kinds of expressions are used. The analyses in her thesis are based on the interactions between students and teacher, but what is done in the classroom is also related to systemic aspects, such as how rules like the curricula and assessment practices are reflected in activities taking place in the classroom.
Another area of research that Anna-Lena has worked with concerns questions about the professional development of teachers in relation to the integration of digital technology in educational settings. She has been involved in school development projects where researchers work closely with local schools in order to develop the pedagogical use of digital devices in local practices. A third area of interest concerns teachers' professional development in and through social media where a project has investigated the participation of teachers in a MOOC created by and for teachers.
A current research interest concerns maker-spaces and the proposed introduction of programming in different subjects in Swedish compulsory school. Innovative practices and technologies that have evolved outside the educational context are often taken as models when attempting to reform educational institutions. The proposed research aims to illuminate how these innovative practices are received and integrated in educational environments, and the processes of transformation and innovation in schools that they generate.
