Malin Sandén is a PhD student at the Department of Education, University of Gothenburg, since 2008. She is trained as a psychologist. Her main research interests are in the analysis of institutional discourse with special focus on categorizing practices in school and identity formation among pupils. The research analyses how children with school-related problems are categorized and what the consequences are. The project, which is running until 2012, is based on audio-recorded documentation of pupil welfare team meetings. The focus of the study is the linguistic practice within pupil welfare teams, where knowledge about pupils with educational difficulties is produced and put to use, among other things for the distribution of resources.
