Learning, diversity and schooling

Course leaders:

Prof Ann-Carita Evaldsson, Uppsala University
Ass.prof. Eva Hjörne, University of Gothenburg

Course description

One of the most interesting challenges of modern schooling is the issue of diversity and intersectionality in relation to schooling. Mechanisms of inclusion/exclusion that relate to how ethnicity, gender, class, age and disability work together in everyday life in school are important to study in order to deconstruct how marginalization is produced in democratic societies.

This course includes different theoretical aspects as well as methodological discussions in the fields of intersectionality, diversity and schooling. Furthermore, the course is dealing with multiple levels of analysis comprising how structural aspects can be observed and located in practice.
